The Associate Director will work with the Director in preparation for the Jayhawk Debate Institute. This person will coordinate the logistics of the camp and be the primary contact person for parents. This includes but is not limited to: placing campers in labs, responding to parent emails, taking phone calls from parents, handling the pre-registration process, working with student housing to establish dorms for the camp, assigning staff files to cut for the camp, and setting up classrooms for the camp tournament. This is a full time, temporary staff position which begins June 3, 2024 and ends August 12, 2024.
Job Description
40% Pre-Camp Preparation:
Coordinate pre-registration process
Work with student housing to establish dorms for camp
Work with Camp Director to plan and coordinate the camp
Develop camp schedule and curriculum
Place students in labs
Coordinate camp lectures and other camp activities
60% Camp Direction/Administration:
Assist in office duties such as answering phone calls, organizing files for distribution of labs, and responding to parent e-mails
Coordinate student check-outs from parents
Manage relations between housing staff
Run camp tournaments
Participate in all camp activities
Position Requirements
Must have a valid driver's license.
This position is hybrid prior to starting camp. It will be onsite during camp.
Required Qualifications
Must be an active member of the NDT/CEDA policy debate community
Previous leadership experience
Previous experience teaching at summer debate camp
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate work and/or Bachelor's degree in Communication Studies or a related field
Strong organizational skills
Past experience working at Jayhawk Debate Institute

During camp (June 23-August 12) available to work between 7:00 am and 11:00 pm coordinating shifts with camp director. Also available for overnight emergencies
