Systems Engineer V (IT Architect)

This position requires an active Secret clearance.

The Systems Engineer V will evaluate GSL IT infrastructure needs and recommend IT solutions to meet GSL science IT requirements. This position requires a combination of strategic vision, technical skills, collaboration skills, and excellent communications skills. The incumbent will interface will all levels of management and technical engineers and must be adept at translating business needs into technical designs with the ability to communicate at both business and technical levels.

Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Systems Engineer V (IT Architect): $125,000 to $140,000.

Pay commensurate with experience.

Full time benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, and other possible benefits as provided. Benefits are subject to change with or without notice.

Systems Engineer V (IT Architect) Responsibilities Include:

  • Work with other systems engineers to develop and deploy scalable IT solutions while meeting NOAA security boundary requirements.
  • Will work closely with GSL engineers and scientists to develop technical and business requirements that must be met in IT deployments.
  • Evaluate new technologies and make recommendations to GSL architects and management.
  • Will require occasional travel to attend conferences and meetings.
  • Work with management to develop cost models to determine where applications should deploy - public or private.
  • Generate monthly status reports.
  • Generate architecture documentation.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Systems Engineer V (IT Architect) Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • BS Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years Linux Systems Administrator or Systems Engineer experience
  • Extensive experience with scalable storage systems, Linux operating systems, backup systems, configuration management, process automation, and architecting complex IT infrastructure solutions.
  • Experience collecting requirements and performing detailed systems analysis.
  • Applicant must have experience with heterogeneous computing environments connected to the Internet including working knowledge of DNS, NFS, TCP/IP, and basic routing concepts.
  • Computer programming skills, knowledge of scripting languages, expertise in computer operating systems, and computer security
  • Must possess creativity, strong organizational skills, and planning skills.
  • Experience/skills in setting priorities and managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An active Secret clearance is required
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
