How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

The primary purpose of this position is to be a technical resource for SPX sales personnel and sales representatives while also managing all aspects of customer service for incoming orders. The role is responsible for full cycle project management for the assigned territory and rep, in addition to resolving customer feedbacks in the Company's quality management system (QMS) by processing supplemental orders and coordinating resolution with internal teams and customers on warranty claims. The incumbent will work as a key technical advisor and product advocate, responsible for facilitating on-time shipments per customer and business revenue requirements, and will help resolve customer issues after shipment. Responsibilities include order processing, change orders, compliance, purchase orders, labor coordination and setup, contract review, special billing setup, and cross-functional remediation. This role is also responsible for resolving order problems in a timely and cost-effective manner, meeting the required quality standard, maintaining target margin, and serving as primary contact for field sales. The incumbent will help drive quality improvements and work with the plant in implementing those improvements. Success in this role requires expertise in multiple products and systems, technical skills, broad engineering knowledge, sound engineering and business judgment, the ability to keep track of multiple projects, and compliance and contract management knowledge. The Project Manager has strong communication skills and effectively handles various tasks to ensure the satisfaction of customers, reps and internal resources.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  • Plan for delivery and shipments to manage costs and balance customer needs with the business financial goals
  • Regularly communicate with major sub-suppliers, manufacturing plant, and SPX internal departments to address issues relate to the project; set up meetings, schedules and communication expectations
  • Prepare submittal packages per schedule detailed on customer's contract or specification for EPC orders
  • Respond to functional and technical elements of RFI's/RFP's
  • Review and confirm orders meet Sarbanes Oxley requirements
  • Manage customer communications, clarifications, shipment and other milestone schedule for projects associated with the assigned territory and rep
  • Maintain target margin of orders by managing the change order process and pricing, ensuring consistency with financial goals and business requirements
  • Conduct weekly manufacturing plant visits to ensure proper order execution. Share knowledge and train peers accordingly and recognize quality improvements and work with the manufacturing plant to implement
  • Manage and mitigate risk and maintain accuracy of Hold report by reconciling internal order holds and contract management with interaction between all parties involved. Provide regular updates to management
  • Evaluate needs of the customers and provide technical solutions that best fit the Company's product portfolio
  • Identify and manage value creation; minimize margin leakage and find opportunities to grow margin on assigned projects
  • Support Finance in communicating with customers and reps to ensure collection of cash on a timely basis
  • Review and process QMS Parts (warranty) and HVAC supplemental or warranty claims, investigate root cause and collaborate with team to rectify
  • Provide training/mentoring to other project managers
  • Identify/execute ideas to improve and streamline order management process
  • Lead person on special projects
  • Initiate "Lessons Learned" and shares with the project management team
  • Process warranty service approvals for claims received in QMS, manage customer returns for quality analysis and negotiate back charges
  • Insurance management, bond forms and LOC's
  • Responsible for managing orders in all countries in which SPX does business
  • Act as agent of Company per corporate guidelines
  • Initiate and manage vendor purchase orders as needed

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of project or construction management or related customer service experience
  • Experience in accounting, engineering, construction management, and/or supply chain preferred
